Visiting from Oregon. This place was not good. The salmon belly was the best out of everything we order. Other dishes either too fishy or not much taste to it. Best of all I found the piece of chocolate they gave at the end was good.

One word: WOW
It's been awhile since I've had good Japanese food. This is a total random find on the last day of our trip and was THE BEST meal I've had in Calgary. Located in a strip mall outside of Calgary. We were greeted by a friendly Japanese staff, I immediate knew this place would be serve authentic Japanese food. We sat at the sushi bar and I had a good time watching the chefs preparing our food right in front of our eyes. Tip: they do have daily specials so make sure you check that out. We ordered some sashimi, nigiri, temaki, pork with ginger. Service was pretty quick overall. One of our nigiri orders was misplaced so it took them awhile before they realized we never got the order, but they did compensate that by giving us half order of the nigiri order (impressive service!).
I was blown again by the tastes of all the food.
Pork with ginger: lightly dusted with flour and fried. Love the flavor of the ginger and soy sauce. Gives it a slight kick to the pork yet it is not greasy. Great appetizer. Although I was surprised it did't come with a bowl of rice. Guess that's something you'd have to order separately.
Sashimi, nigir, temaki : Just WOW. So FRESH. None of that fishy taste. THICK slice. Portion of the rice is just right. Almost teared up as I was eating because it's as good as the sushi I had in Japan
This will now be my go-to Japanese whenever I visit Calgary and I'm already looking forward to my next visit! -

We had wanted to try this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation so we thought it best to try at lunch (in case of an epic fail, we then have other options nearby that will not break the bank).
Located on the other side of Eggs Oasis, Roku is next to a dentist so parking is extremely hard to find close by (this will be the only complaint).
This lunch for two was $50+ so not for the faint of heart or those on a budget for sure (but well worth the experience that will be had).
Without further ado, here we roll!
I got the $17.00 sushi lunch and a $5.00 sockeye salmon roll (not pictured) while the other gentleman got the $15.00 Lunch 1 combo with chirashi and mixed tempura with miso soup and salad and also a $12.00 sea urchin (he wasn't too enamoured with that but I am not sure if he generally likes sea urchin).
With my 2 pieces each of salmon, tuna, ebi, and 6 pieces of California roll along with miso soup and salad, this combo, c'est magnifique!! The sockeye salmon roll, ooh la la mon coeur!!
All fresh! All good! All gone!
I did try some of his oh so fresh chirashi; next trip I will get that and the chicken teriyaki.
The daily specials will vary but I hope the blue fin tuna will still be on them (I have had this before and it was très delicieux). *fingers crossed*
The service is excellent and apparently if you are distinguished or a regular even more so.
The restaurant is beautifully laid out but can be loud (at lunch). Definitely a date spot though.
Roku (sushi box) with Roku (streaming box), the perfect combination? We shall see. We. Shall. See. -

Pretty good sushi place. Unfortunately, overcrowded and overpriced - while being short on space and portion size.
Service is nice, though swamped going flat out all the time. Kitchen work is good - if only the plate size was matching the quality of food.
Place is small, and when packed with customers - becomes really crowded. It looks more like a takeout place than an actual restaurant.
Parking might be a bit of a trouble, despite the location - only few spots are nearby, and plenty of businesses around.
Overall, I am not impressed. Roky is okay... but... just okay. Not something to dream about, in my opinion.
